RE:mind: A Program for Cognitive Health

xHow the RE:mind Program Works

shutterstock_443521684At AFFIRMATIVhealth, we are focused on improving cognitive health. Our founding team of neuropathologists have researched brain health and plasticity and believe there is growing evidence that lifestyle modifications, metabolic optimization, and other non-pharmaceutical approaches provide substantial benefits for sufferers of early Alzheimer’s and cognitive decline, with results that are in many ways more impressive than traditional approaches.

The AFFIRMATIVhealth RE:mind program was created in order to bring the latest research and findings on improving brain health through combination therapy out to the millions of those impacted by Alzheimer’s or dementia. Originally created by the Buck Institute for Research on Aging in response to an abundance of public interest in cognitive decline studies, the RE:mind program focuses on educating and supporting individuals and families to take action to help maximize your cognitive health and do everything currently known to potentially impede the progression of cognitive decline, and potentially even recover previously lost cognitive function.

The RE:mind program is designed to provide both individualized education and support while at the same time bringing together a community of individuals and care givers that share common goals and a desire to take a course of action to improve cognitive health.

The RE:mind program includes:

  • Testing and medical data capture;
  • Baseline protocol;
  • 4-day retreat; and
  • 3 months follow-up coaching;
  • Updated protocol.

x4-Day Retreat

The Lodge at Sonoma

As a component of the RE:mind program, retreats are held at The Lodge at Sonoma in California. The Lodge provides a quiet, relaxing atmosphere that enables attendees to focus on the program. Accommodations and all meals are included in the retreat fee.

Prior to attending a RE:mind retreat, each participant will work with their doctors and other health care providers to provide our team with :

  • Medical history
  • List of medications
  • Results of cognitive tests
  • Lifestyle information
  • Laboratory and genetic testing

This information is then analyzed by our affiliate, Muses Labs, to produce a personalized MEND™ Protocol.  The MEND™ Protocol is generated by a sophisticated computer algorithm that analyzes each participant’s medical history, genetic information, and extensive laboratory data to produce a unique, individualized plan that outlines nutrition, lifestyle and other recommendations that may impact your brain health and cognitive function.

When participants arrive at our four day retreat in beautiful Sonoma, CA, they will be provided with their personalized protocol and will spend the entire retreat learning more about the science behind this approach and how to apply their individualized plan.

Our doctors conduct one-on-one reviews of each participant’s analysis and recommended protocol, and outline the individualized, actionable items such as diet, lifestyle, cognitive training, and stress reducers that show promise for fighting the effects of neurodegenerative disease.

Doctors, nutritionists, physical therapists, chefs and other industry professionals will instruct participants and their caregivers on the benefits of incorporating these changes into your everyday lifestyle. You will learn:

  • How nutrition and physical fitnessplay a role in cognitive health
  • Which foods are recommended for maximizing brain health
  • What lifestyle protocol is recommended for your particular genealogy and physiological makeup
  • How sleep deprivation and stress can affect cognitive health, and how to de-stress through exercise, meditation, sleep and other activities
  • What types of mental activity/exercise can positively impact memory and cognitive function

In addition each participant will have a one-on-one session with our doctors to review their personalized protocol. This session drills into the results of the analysis and the recommended lifestyle and behavioral changes.

All meals are specially created for program participants by the chef at The Lodge, following all of the recommended nutritional guidelines. Cooking demonstrations show how easy it is to create delicious, healthy meals when you return home.

yes-shutterstock_22176436We recognize change isn’t always easy. For some participants the recommended protocol may only require minor changes to their everyday lifestyle, for others the protocol may require significant modifications to diet, exercise and behavioral habits. The RE:mind program is set up to provide ongoing support from both our professional staff and peer participants.

Ongoing support from the RE:mind program includes:

  • Proactive coaching outreach for 3 months following the retreat
  • Ongoing updates on latest research and findings
  • Access to an application to track individual progress
  • Online community to support your peers

Diagnosis of dementia or Alzheimer’s can leave individuals and family members feeling hopeless and isolated. We at RE:mind are here to support you along your path to cognitive wellbeing.
